Reopening for business: What business owners need to know

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced business owners around the globe to reevaluate and significantly enhance their cleaning practices. As a trusted disinfection company providing a wide variety of sanitizing services, ServiceMaster TBS Division is here to fill leaders like you in on how to protect your employees and customers as you reopen for business.

Are cleaning and disinfecting the same thing?
Now more than ever, it’s important to understand the difference between cleaning and disinfecting. Cleaning lowers the number of germs but does not necessarily kill germs. Usually conducted with soap and water, cleaning removes germs from surfaces and, in turn, lowers the risk of spreading them. With the use of chemicals, disinfecting kills germs on surfaces after they are first cleaned with soap and water. Clearly, these two actions should be done in tandem so you can keep your team and others who visit your workplace safe and healthy.

What do I do if there is a COVID-19 case at my workplace?
While we hope it will not be necessary, ServiceMaster TBS is qualified and equipped with the required processes and personal protective equipment to provide disinfecting services for any facility should a case be identified. If you discover an employee or a recent visitor has tested positive for COVID-19, give us a call at 856-770-2731, and we will act quickly.

What does the CDC recommend I do?
When conducting cleanings and disinfections on your own, the CDC recommends a list of EPA-registered disinfectants as the preferred solutions to be used when cleaning. The organization suggests the use of bleach cleaners as long as they are diluted properly, as well as solutions containing 70% alcohol. These are all permitted with the appropriate inspection of the product’s label, checking for intended usages and an expiration date. This information just scratches the surface, though. Please visit www.cdc.gov to learn more, and seriously consider engaging a professional janitorial service like ServiceMaster TBS.
