What to do when an employee has COVID-19 symptoms

In early November 2020 when this piece was written, approximately 9.6 million Americans had been diagnosed with COVID-19. Moreover, nearly 3 million people in the areas ServiceMaster TBS Division’s disinfection team covers – New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware – have tested positive. With individuals spending more time inside due to colder temperatures late fall and early winter bring to the Northeast, cases are sure to continue rising, which means an outbreak at your facility is a definite possibility, unfortunately. So, what do you do if you have an employee experiencing symptoms?

The first task you should tackle while you await test results is to get the workplace deep cleaned and disinfected using top-of-the-line materials, techniques and tools, such as electrostatic sprayers. Once you contact ServiceMaster TBS, our team will quickly develop a cleaning and disinfection plan tailored to your facility. Failure to get a professional cleaning team like ServiceMaster TBS on board immediately could result in lost time and productivity as you wait for test results to return.

Since the pandemic began, ServiceMaster TBS has upgraded its cleaning solution to a blend of quaternary ammonium chloride, SaniMaster 7, which is registered with and meets the EPA's criteria for use against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. We will use this solution when cleaning surfaces from floor to ceiling, especially those that are high-touch such as light switches, door handles, office phones and more. To maintain the potency of this new disinfectant, we use Kimtech disposable wipes, as well. For an added punch, our disinfection experts are armed with Clorox Total 360 electrostatic sprayers. Clorox Total 360 is an aerosolized fog technology that is registered with the EPA and meets its criteria for killing SARS-CoV-2, just like SaniMaster 7. This game-changing machine turns liquid sanitizing solution into charged droplets that are drawn to all surfaces, not just the ones in the line of fire of the sprayer, at a force greater than gravity. This means that the droplets wrap around objects instead of landing on the topside of surfaces, and as a result, more consistent coverage and deeper disinfection is achieved.

As a trusted leader in the cleaning industry, ServiceMaster TBS is dedicated to providing clean and healthy environments. The COVID-19 outbreak reinforces the importance of keeping work spaces clean and safe. While it is always our goal to help reduce the threat of any outbreak through proactive measures such as proper cleaning and facility care, combined with your own personal hygiene procedures, we are here to help if an outbreak occurs. Click here to learn more about our electrostatic cleaning, disinfection services, sanitization services and decontamination.
